Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, has revealed the Minister for Education continues to reject the Woodford community’s call for a full high school.
“In response to the petition I tabled in Parliament, signed by 1,300 locals, the Minister has again confirmed the Government is not interested in Years 11 and 12 at Woodford – not unless there are 1,100 students across Years 8 to 12, sustained over a 20 year period,” Mr Powell said.
“The Minster has shown total disregard for the community’s needs and has really let down a whole new generation of students.”
Mr Powell will now take this matter to his LNP colleagues and specifically to the Shadow Minister for Education and Training, Dr Bruce Flegg MP. Mr Powell will invite Dr Flegg to visit the community in the near future where he can hear first hand, from parents and community leaders, the value placed on offering the senior years locally.
“The LNP is a party that believes in choice, and that is most important in areas such as education. I will be encouraging the Opposition to explore alternatives to ensure our kids are given every opportunity to complete their higher school studies without the strain of extensive travel and costs to their families.”
“I have said it before, I am committed to fighting this every step of the way and am humbled to know how much support there is in Woodford and surrounding communities.” Mr Powell concluded.
