Glass House MP Andrew Powell has welcomed the news that a crossing supervisor will finally be funded for the Elimbah State School.
“To say I am thrilled at this news is an understatement. The safety for these kids has been a major concern for the school, parents and the broader community so it is great to see the government has finally listened to our calls” Mr Powell said.
“This announcement comes on the back of concerted campaigning by all of us linked to the school community. And to get the ball rolling, the council came to the party with a commitment to fund the relocation of the existing pedestrian crossing.”
Local Councillor, Adrian Raedel, has been working in conjunction with Mr Powell and P & C President, Sharon Webb, to ensure safety for the children of Elimbah State School is a top priority for everybody.
“Council accepted that by shifting the current crossing ten metres would greatly increase visibility for motorists therefore ensuring greater safety for students and parents crossing the road” Cr Raedel said.
“This really is a great outcome for the Elimbah community and I applaud the government for finally acknowledging their responsibility in this matter” Cr Raedel stated.
Mrs Sharon Webb, the P & C President, has lobbied constantly, over many years, for this outcome.
“I would like to thank the community and parents for their ongoing support over the many years while the P&C have been pushing for the funded supervisor and especially Donna, Shekria & Lorraine for putting their hands up to do the job voluntarily until the Government came through with the funding” Mrs Webb said.
