The wild and wet weather we experienced last week has provided a number of headaches and frustrations, not least of which is the temporary closure of Grigor Bridge on the Maleny-Kenilworth Road at Conondale. Whilst this is a major inconvenience for local residents and businesses I need to stress that the bridge has sustained damage and is therefore unsafe. On 14 and 15 October, Main Roads completed load testing to determine what traffic volumes and weights it can sustain and I understand that late on Friday, the bidge was re-opened. Once I am back in the office on Monday, I will seek further advice from Main Roads on where to from here. The bridge is one of many segments of the Maleny-Kenilworth Road that require upgrading andare the focus of regular conversations between myself and Main Roads – perhaps this latest incident will hasten some much needed upgrades.
