There really are insufficient words to describe the devastating effect the recent floods have had, and continue to have, on South East Queensland. Compared to our fellow Queenslanders in parts of Central Queensland, Toowoomba, Lockyer Valley and now Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast has been left relatively unscathed. Thankfully the homes evacuated on the Coast have been small in number in comparison to those in Brisbane. We have certainly seen massive amounts of rainfall and flash flooding and I am pleased to say most people have listened to the hard working SES crews and have stayed away from roads that have been declared unsafe for motorists. As a resident of Palmwoods I personally have had a few challenges in getting to and from home this past week.
This week I plan to make several tours throughout the electorate to check on some of the more isolated areas and inspect the state of the roads. I have just arrived back in the office after a tour of the Maleny and Conondale areas within Glass House. I have posted a few photos from my journey in an attempt to show people what sort of effect this flooding has had on our whole community.
