Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, has welcomed the news that Palmwoods State School have chosen to participate in an ‘Adopt a School Program’ and support the Cyclone Yasi-affected Bohlevale State School in Townsville.
“The adoption program has been set up in response to the massive clean up and recovery effort following the floods and the cyclone that devastated three quarters of Queensland.
“Many North Queensland schools have had extensive damage to their grounds and most of the costs associated with replacing landscaping and outdoor equipment are not within the recovery budget.
“To kick off their fundraising, the school held a free dress day for students on Thursday 17 February and raised nearly $560.00.
“I really am so proud to be a resident of Palmwoods and congratulate the school for showing such compassion to a fellow Queensland school and its students in their time of need,” said Mr Powell.
The school is planning other fundraising events including a school disco throughout the year and any one wishing to make a donation can call the school on 5453 2444.
