Queensland’s stunning environmental assets were being degraded by an inept long-term Labor Government, the LNP said today.
New Shadow Environment Minister Andrew Powell said his new role was an honour and a great opportunity to work for better conservation outcomes for all Queenslanders.
“I’m extremely excited to represent the CanDo Team as Environment spokesperson, but I’m mindful of the challenges,” Mr Powell said.
“We all have a role to play because everyone is a stakeholder in environmental management. Our lifestyle and that of future generations depends on choices all of us make.
“Government has to take the lead. The key is balancing our interaction with nature.
“Long-term Labor has failed on several counts. Many of our protected areas are being degraded through poor planning and failed management.
“Labor has cheerfully chased media opportunities by announcing National Parks without any intention of protecting their integrity.”
Mr Powell said his passion for the environment flourished while studying science at UQ. He says he’s also fortunate to represent a beautiful part of Queensland.
“I’m proud to represent the Glass House electorate and people who treasure both their local surroundings and environmental heritage.
“The CanDo LNP Government will be an environmental leader, advocate, and protector.
“Campbell Newman has led the way in Brisbane with a range of innovative policies based on practical action and sustainable living, and I know he will lead and drive far better environmental management programs for all of Queensland.”
