Some of you will remember in May last year I strapped on my walking boots and travelled the scenic and some times steep 35kms along the Maleny-Kenilworth Road between Little Yabba Creek and Maleny. The walk was held to highlight the desperate need to upgrade this dangerous stretch of road. I had enormous support from the community with many locals stopping me along the way to sign a petition I had sponsored calling on the Government to allocate funding to continue the road upgrade. I am thrilled to announce that I will again be walking this journey to demonstrate the ongoing issues with the Maleny-Kenilworth Road. In addition this year, I am using the walk to also raise funds for the local Chaplaincy programs at Maleny and Conondale State Schools. I am asking you, the community, to consider sponsoring me a dollar amount per kilometre I walk (i.e. $1 per kilometre would mean a $35 donation). Absolutely all money raised will be going straight to our Chaplains – Beverley at Maleny SS and Boyd at Conondale SS. The work of Chaplains in our local schools is crucial to the development of our kids and any support we can give them goes a long way to allowing our schools to continue offering this great service. I will be starting the walk at 6am from Little Yabba Creek, stopping in Conondale for a BBQ brekky at around 9am and then finishing with another BBQ at Tesch Park Maleny hopefully around 4pm. If you are interested in sponsoring me or are keen to join me on the walk, give my office a call on 5435 2013 or send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Local school kids are also encouraged to walk a short distance and organise their own sponsorship – please make contact with your school office to register.
