Many of you will be familiar with the announcement in November last year that there would be a new Sunshine Coast Rail timetable to commence sometime this year. Frustrated, angry and disappointed Coast commuters, along with myself and other MP’s fought this announcement by appealing to the then Minister to step in and change what was being proposed. The Minister ignored us and the timetable that started on 6 June was a disaster for all commuters. Some small amendments have now been made but Coast commuters are still faced with longer trips and higher fares. So where to from here? The answer is simple – the North Coast Rail Duplication needs to be funded immediately. The former Transport Minister stripped this project of funds and now we have a half completed project with a duplication that terminates at Beerburrum. Funds have been put off until 2031 – this is simply not good enough! In conjunction with John Connolly I have another petition running that will be presented to the Minister later this year. We need as many signatures as possible so please add your name to the list. The new timetable changes have further highlighted the urgent need to complete this project to offer the growing number of Coast commuters a viable public transport option. Also – a date to add to your calendar – Mr Scott Emerson MP, Shadow Minister for Transport will be at a dinner in Glass House on Thursday 1 September. This will be a great opportunity to ask Scott any questions about transport plans for the Sunshine Coast. The dinner will be in Palmwoods – stay tuned for more details.
