Some of you may have seen my update in the Glasshouse Country News in early September in relation to information I received from the Minister for Main Roads regarding the delay to repairs to Peachester Range Road. Please see below if you missed it –
Update – Peachester Road (August 2011)
After my last update I had quite a lot of people contact me to express their frustration that the reconstruction of this road was to be delayed further with repair works only due to commence just before Christmas. I passed this feedback directly to the Minister for Main Roads and explained the desperate need to fast track repairs before the wet season. Unfortunately the Minister has replied saying due to the extensive damage and the technicalities of the repairs they can’t start works any sooner than already advised. Not what we were hoping for and I just ask for your ongoing patience and caution when using this road. If I have any more advice from the Department I will be sure to inform residents.
A Glasshouse Country News reader sent a Letter to the Editor following this update asking that we invite the Minister or representatives from his Department to a community meeting to discuss the delays further. Please see below my response to this letter.
I have made every effort to keep the local community informed on Main Road updates regarding repairs to Peachester Range Road. I have written to the Minister on behalf of the Peachester community asking for these road repairs to be fast tracked on several occasions. And recently I raised the matter in Parliament imploring that locals have been patient long enough. The response from the Minister and Department has been the same – in the wake of the January floods all Department resources have been stretched to meet the demands of a state wide reconstruction effort. The Minister has advised the need to perform extensive investigations following the significant landslip has caused some delay. However, at the request of one of your readers I have again written to the Minister asking that his Department now consider holding a community forum to explain to the community why the reconstruction of Peachester Range Road to two lanes continues to be delayed. I will continue to update the community as information comes to hand.
