Earlier this week I joined Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson and local councillors Jenny McKay, Tony Wellington, Rick Baberowski, Steve Robinson and Greg Rogerson on a tour of environmental projects being carried out across the Coast.
We travelled through the hinterland from Maleny to Nambour and on to Coolum, stopping at Sunshine Beach before heading up to Cooroy. We had representatives from 13 environmental groups join the tour, which was organised by SEQ Catchments.
It was such a great trip and I was encouraged by the variety of the projects and the enthusiasm shown by those involved. We saw a range of projects that are focused on improving water quality, enhancing biodiversity and protecting our flora, fauna and marine life.
Almost all of these groups are run by volunteers and I congratulate the council on supporting these projects that enhance the Sunshine Coast’s natural environment.
