Andrew Powell hears and sees community concerns on tour of flood damaged Glass House

I toured the Glass House electorate for the second time since the weekend of wild weather on Thursday 31 January.  This tour allowed me to personally visit residents that have been struggling with loss of power and to also give information on the various funding options that might be available to them.  I also met with many local business owners on my tour including Allan at the Glasshouse Newsagent, Kylie at the Glasshouse Post Office and Bill from Glass on Glasshouse.  While in Peachester I called in and saw the Principal and teachers at Peachester State School and also chatted to owners of the local Peachester Produce  store.  In Maleny I had a chance to talk to Kay from Maleny Dairies about their milking challenges as well as business owners in Maple Street including Mark from Maple 3, Matthew and Denise from Maleny News and Rob Outridge from Maleny IGA.

Business owners and residents throughout Glass House have been through a lot in the last 6 days yet all of the ones I met and chatted with still had a smile on their faces.  Everyone was pleased to receive updated information regarding ongoing power supply issues and funding that might be available to assist.

My website contains information about how you can check your eligibility for assistance so make sure you have a read.

I received valuable feedback from the community on my tour and I will be using this information to compile a summary report which will be handed to the various Government Departments concerned in the coming weeks.

If there is anyone reading this message who is still without power, please contact my office on 5435 2013.
