Powell Media Release – Join the drive to save lives (7 November 2013)

Local drivers have the chance to Join the Drive to save lives with film crews in Montville at the Montville Visitor Information Centre on Wednesday 20 November from 2pm to 4pm for a new advertising campaign.

Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said the community would feature in this year’s Christmas road safety message.

“Film crews are travelling around the state interviewing Queenslanders about how we as individuals can improve safety on our roads,” Mr Powell said.

“Rather than images of blood and broken bones the Newman Government wants to hear real stories from real people in a campaign designed to engage with drivers.

“Our research is showing that drivers are becoming desensitised to shock advertising with almost most half of those surveyed unable to recall a safety messages in these ads.

“I would encourage people to share their thoughts and ideas about how we can work together to improve safety on our roads.”

Messages provided by everyday Queenslanders will appear on television, radio and online over the Christmas holidays from mid-December.

“You can get involved by uploading messages to the campaign website (, sharing content, or a simple ‘like’ via social media.

“When it comes to road safety, we all have a role to play.  So get involved and join the drive to save lives this Christmas.”
