Powell Media Release – It’s Live! In Queensland – New Events Calendar to grow Tourism (23 October 2014)

Events in Glass House will be promoted in the exciting new It’s Live! In Queensland Calendar of Events.

The It’s Live! Calendar, launched today, features a world class line-up of 126 Queensland events expected to generate a $380 million dollar economic boost for Queensland.

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell said a number of events in the region will be part of the bold new marketing initiative.

“The Newman Government has attracted and supported a strong offering of exciting events which will play a vital role in supporting our economy,” Mr Powell said.

“The It’s Live calendar gives locals and tourists a new way to plan their family activities in the Glass House region.”

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Jann Stuckey said she was proud to present the first events calendar presented under the It’s Live! banner.

It’s Live! is a $3.8 million investment, the biggest events marketing campaign of its kind undertaken in Queensland,” she said.

“While Labor had no plans for tourism, the Newman Government’s 20-year plan for tourism, Destination Success, outlines the need to support events to showcase our iconic visitor experiences, drive repeat visitation and grow regional tourism destinations.

“Events featured on the new Queensland calendar are estimated to generate $380 million in spending to Queensland and more than 1.7 million visitor nights.”

Tourism and Events Queensland CEO Leanne Coddington said TEQ’s Events Strategy 2020 set a strategic framework for collaborative event investment and development in Queensland and It’s Live! brought together vibrant events staged in spectacular Queensland destinations.

“Events bring destinations to life and It’s Live! will play a significant role in attracting visitors to Queensland,” Ms Coddington said.

“We have a bold vision to increase the value of the calendar within the next decade.”
