Powell Media Release – Buy Locally this Festive Season (27 November 2014)

Families in Glass House are being encouraged to spread the festive cheer to local small businesses and ‘Buy Locally this Festive Season.

With just one month to go until Christmas Andrew Powell MP has launched the Campaign to support small businesses and provide a boost to the region.

“The Christmas season has well and truly begun and local businesses, particularly small businesses operated by the mums and dads in our region, need our support,” Mr Powell said.

“Small businesses drive innovation, employment and economic progress throughout Glass House.

“The benefits of supporting local businesses and shopping locally cannot be underestimated.

“When you shop locally, your money stays locally, with one dollar spent at a local business returning up to five times that amount through employee wages, rates and the purchase of materials and supplies.”

Small Business Minister, Jann Stuckey says The ‘Buy Locally this Festive Season’ initiative forms part of the Newman Government’s strong commitment to grow a prosperous small business sector.

“The Newman LNP Government recognises businesses were doing it tough under Labor, so we are working to reduce red tape and regulation to let industry create jobs and grow the economy,” Ms Stuckey said.

“The Newman Government’s red tape reduction initiatives are so far saving business and the community $425 million per year, however we still have more to achieve.

“Many owners of these businesses are mums and dads and we want them to be able to focus on creating opportunities for their children, not filling in paperwork.”

‘Buy Locally this Festive Season’ material is available to download through the Queensland Government’s online Business Industry Portal.
