Powell Media Release – ‘Report a Roadside’ that needs Mowing or Spraying in Glass House (13 March 2015)

Member for Glass House

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP, has been inundated with enquiries from people in Glass House regarding overgrown vegetation throughout this predominately Hinterland electorate.

Mr Powell has reported the instances to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) who have acknowledged their contractors have gone to sleep on the job.

“It has actually become a safety concern for many of the people that have made contact with me.  They are reporting overgrown vegetation that is creating visibility and safety issues along our Hinterland main roads,” he said.

Mr Powell is asking community members to alert his office as soon as possible if they identify any vegetation issues in their community either by phone call or email.

“TMR are asking for examples – written or photographic – so that they get the contractors to lift their game.  I’m seeking your assistance to be able to provide this to them.

“Photographic evidence would obviously be great, but can I urge people to only stop and take photos if they deem it safe to do so,” he said.

“The more pictorial evidence we can gather to present to TMR would be great.  Even if the locations can be provided to my office I can arrange to get photos taken myself.

“This is a huge issue for the people in Glass House – I have had so many phone calls and emails about this that I have literally lost count.  And people aren’t just worried about shoddy mowing – weed management appears to have gone out the window too.

“I am prepared to take the same approach to weeds as with mowing.  If people identify a major issue with roadside weeds in the community, please let my office know so we can update TMR,” Mr Powell concluded.
