Powell Media Release – Petition launched for safer road conditions in Woodford (26 August 2015)

As part of his commitment to fight for the needs of the Glass House community, Member for Glass House Andrew Powell MP has lent his support to a petition demanding safer road conditions in Woodford.

The petition is calling on the House to relocate the west bound 100km/h sign to west of the Mary Street intersection and the installation of a double white line (no overtaking) between Neurum Road and Mary Street in Woodford.

“This really is a no brainer but unfortunately the Department of Transport and Main Roads have been reluctant to make these changes as they acknowledge most users of this road adhere to the conditions.

“This petition is about taking a pre-emptive step to address the potential for future accidents in this vicinity and with support from locals, we can show that these changes will be a huge help to the community,” he said.

Mr Powell will be joining Woodford local, Brenton Kelly in walking the streets of Woodford on Tuesday September 8 to gather signatures for the petition.  An ePetition has also been set up which can be accessed on the following link –

Mr Powell will also be set up at Memorial Park, Archer Street in Woodford from 1.30pm to 3pm on Tuesday 8 September if you would like to drop by and sign the petition.

“When you visit this area of Woodford and see firsthand the challenges that the existing speed presents, you can understand why this is a necessary step to preventing future road accidents.

“By simply relocating the west bound 100km/h sign and installing double white lines, we can ensure that this thriving community maintains a safe environment for residents and tourists,” Mr Powell concluded.
