#Powell4GlassHouse – Chaplains win in battle to upgrade Maleny-Kenilworth Road
In May this year, Member for Glass House Andrew Powell MP, completed yet another 38km walk along Maleny-Kenilworth Road from Little Yabba Creek in Cambroon to Tesch Park in Maleny to show his support to local Chaplains and his commitment to fix the road.
“The walk does seem to get tougher each year, but maybe that is just my age creeping up on me! I think it is fair to say it did take me a few extra days to recover this time.
“This year I even had Chappy Becky from Maleny State School and Chappy Tressa from Conondale join me for the entire trip and I’m pretty sure they were both in a world of pain afterwards – but when you know it’s all for a good cause the pain doesn’t seem quite as bad.
“I’d like to thank Ross and Sally and their team at Maleny Dairies for their donations of milk and yogurt products that assisted in the hydration of our walkers. My thanks are also extended to the Maleny IGA, Conondale General Store and the many volunteers who came together to make this day happen,” he said.
Mr Powell is pleased to report that this year the walk raised a total of $1500 that will be split between the Conondale and Maleny State Schools. In addition to a donation from Mr Powell’s personal allowance, smaller donations were also received from other state members of Parliament including –
Member for Redlands, Matt McEachan
Member for Aspley, Tracy Davis
Member for Coomera, Michael Crandon
Member for Buderim, Steve Dickson
Member for Clayfield, Tim Nicholls
Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington
“This annual walk forms such an important part of my ongoing agenda for Glass House as it shows my unwavering support to our Chaplains but also demonstrates my commitment to secure funding to fix the Maleny-Kenilworth Road.
“I recently took Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg on a tour of Glass House and he could see first-hand the state of the road and hear from locals on how desperately they want to see it fixed.
“I have not forgotten my promise to secure funds to fix this dangerous road, and I will keep doing it until I have delivered”.
