Powell Media Release – Round One winners announced in Local Heroes Grants (23 February 2016)

23 February 2016

Five local groups or individuals have this week been announced as Round One winners of Andrew Powell’s Local Heroes Grants.

Designed to provide a bit of a helping hand to community groups or individuals participating in local, state, national or international endeavours, Andrew Powell’s Local Heroes grants have proven very popular since the local Member announced this program in January 2016.

“I’ve been the local MP for seven years now and I know how our community groups in particular are doing it tough.  They can’t make changes or upgrades to their facilities without funding and with so many people vying for only a few pots of money, it makes it really tough.

“I know my grants will give a small but valuable injection of funds to some of these groups and I am so pleased that I have this opportunity to help.

Mr Powell’s Local Heroes Grants were announced in January 2016 and there will be five more rounds this year.

Winners for Round One:
Glasshouse Community Hall – to go towards their 100th Birthday of the Hall celebrations;
Delaneys Creek Pony Club – to assist in the operations of their tuckshop;
Smart Pup for Ella – Maleny – to assist in purchasing a Smart Pup for Prep Student Ella
Sarah Peters – Conondale – to attend the World Paint Horse Show
Conondale State School P & C – to renew equipment in the school tuckshop.

“I did squeeze in one extra recipient this time round as it was just so hard to choose.  Unfortunately no groups from the Palmwoods area submitted a nomination this round so hopefully word gets out and we have a few to choose from next time.

Round 2 – Monday 11 April
Round 3 – Monday 13 June
Round 4 – Monday 15 August
Round 5 – Monday 10 October
Round 6 – Monday 12 December
