After lobbying to the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) for years, a final push last term from Mooloolah families and local MP Andrew Powell saw TMR confirm that they will finally subsidise a school bus from Mooloolah to Maleny State High School.
Families were initially told this service would not be implemented until term 3 2021, but that has now been bumped forward to term 2, beginning today.
“Until now, Sam and Glasshouse Country Coaches stepped up for these kids and provided a bus, but it wasn’t subsidised by the Government” said Mr Powell.
“Sam and the team at Glasshouse Country Coaches will still be running the bus but this time, it won’t be parents footing the bill!”
Families and their students in Mooloolah Valley who are currently in a catchment other than Maleny High School will not be affected by this subsidy. They will continue to be able to receive subsidised transport to their catchment school.
“While this is great news for Mooloolah Valley students, there’s still plenty of other schools that haven’t been lucky enough to get this solution, so my petition calling on a full review of the School Transport Assistance Scheme is still live and in need of signatures,” Mr Powell concluded.
