Earlier this year Member for Glass House Andrew Powell MP tabled a petition with 215 signatures, calling on the Government to resurface Beerburrum Road, in the Queensland Parliament.
Beerburrum mum Kirsty Levis and Member for Glass House Andrew Powell MP started the petition to resurface Beerburrum Road between McDougall Road and Eaton Road and avoid serious motor vehicle and cyclist accidents.
“The Minister for Transport and Main Roads has now responded to the petition, and it’s pretty vague but I’d still call it a positive response” said Mr Powell.
According to the Minister, design work for extensive road treatments between Eaton Lane and McDougall Road is almost complete.
“The Minister doesn’t elaborate on what type of works will be undertaken and what the designs include, but the response does indicate that Beerburrum petitioners have been heard, and the road will be properly resurfaced in the near future.”
In late 2019, Transport and Main Roads resurfaced a 1.3-kilometre section of Beerburrum Road between Eaton Way and Steve Irwin Way.
“The resurfacing that has already been undertaken is great quality, and if the worst parts of Beerburrum Road are now set to receive the same treatment, then I’m happy.”
“I plan to get in touch with the Minister again now to ask when the next upgrades are scheduled to begin, because the sooner the better. This road is dangerous and in desperate need of attention” concluded Mr Powell.
