Show Time!

Sunshine and unseasonably warm weather made for a cracker of a Maleny Show this year.  The beautiful blue skies certainly brought the crowds along with a good mix of locals and visitors, which was excellent to see.

Thanks to those people that stopped by my stall, it was great to see so many familiar faces out and about, including Kay and Monica pictured above.  I also participated in the official opening on Friday afternoon – along with His Excellency the Governor and colleagues Mal Brough MP and Senator James McGrath – always a highlight of my time at the show.  If you missed the Maleny Show, be sure to get along to one of the others coming up in June in Caboolture, Nambour and Woodford.

Glass House Volunteer Awards

During my six years as the Member for Glass House, I have held a special awards ceremony and morning tea to publicly recognise volunteers in our community.  This event has always been held to coincide with National Volunteers Week.

The way I see it, anyone who volunteers in any capacity, in any community organisation in Glass House deserves to have this special recognition and be thanked for their contribution to our community.
The volunteers we recognised in 2015 range from people whol help at local schools, in environment and historical groups and within our Chamber of Commerce and tourist information organisations.

Join me to celebrate Queensland Week withmorning tea in my office

30 May to 7 June 2015 is Queensland Week and we are all encouraged to come together to celebrate our great state and its people.  There will be a range of events on throughout the community and you can check what is planned in your local area by visitingwww.qld.gov.au/queenslandweek.
My own office will be participating in the ‘Queensland Day in the Office’ program with a morning tea on Friday 5 June from 10am to 11am.  Feel free to come along and join me in a game of office cricket at the front of our Maleny office and enjoy a piece of pineapple cake and a cuppa.  We will have other games throughout the morning so drop by for some fun – including a guess how many bananas in the jar competition.

Support for Chaplains

I have long been a very strong supporter of the work of Chaplains in our state schools.  Earlier this year I participated in the Beerwah Chappy Bowls Day and have also recently made my annual ‘Great Walk’ along Maleny-Kenilworth Road to raise funds for Maleny and Conondale Chaplains.  Last week I attended the annual dinner in Caboolture that raises funds for eleven Chappies in the region including our very own Dorothea from Elimbah State School.  These Chaplains play such a vital role in the care and development of our kids at school and they need our support wherever possible.  Any donations are welcome through Scripture Union and you can donate via their websitehttp://www.suqld.org.au/donate
