Powell and Frecklington Media Release – D’Aguilar Highway upgrade for Mary Smokes Creek Road intersection

13 July 2017

A $481,500 safety improvement project at the D’Aguilar Highway and Mary Smokes Creek Road intersection, Royston is set to start in late July 2017.

Local LNP MPs Deb Frecklington (Nanango) and Andrew Powell (Glass House) have been working closely with the Federal Coalition Government to get the upgrade funded.

Nanango MP Deb Frecklington said the intersection upgrade would fix a significant black spot along the D’Aguilar Highway.

“This is a dangerous intersection which will get a $480,000 upgrade thanks to the Federal Government Black Spot Program,” Ms Frecklington said.

“There have been a number of crashes at this intersection as cars come to a stop and wait to turn right from the D’Aguilar Highway into Mary Smokes Creek Road.

“With our Federal colleagues, the LNP will build the roads and bridges we need to keep motorists safe.”

Glass House MP Andrew Powell said the work on the upgrade would start in late July and take approximately six weeks to complete.

“This project will provide a dedicated right-turn lane from the D’Aguilar Highway onto Mary Smokes Creek Road,” Mr Powell said.

“Reduced speed limits and lane closures will be required for the upgrade but the end result will mean increased safety for locals.

“After the Palaszczuk Labor Government cut over $63 million from our region’s roads budget, this is a welcome commitment by the Federal Coalition.”
