It’s not every day the Leader of the Opposition comes to Glass House, so the local Member made sure he maximised the opportunity by showing Lawrence Springborg MP some of the main issues affecting the region.

Over the past six months, Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell MP has been compiling his ‘Fighting for Glass House’ wishlist and has already announced several of the projects that he is working on for the community.

“The community knows I am dedicated to fighting for the best interests of our region, so asking Mr Springborg to tour the electorate was another way of demonstrating to residents just how serious I am about achieving great things for our region.

“One such project was my pledge to fight the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government to re-allocate $1.5 million in funds for additional car parking at the Caboolture Hospital.

“Along with my former colleagues Lisa France and Darren Grimwade, we announced in January this year that we would be providing an additional 100 car spaces.  The funds had been allocated in the budget but now they have mysteriously disappeared into a Labor black hole,” Mr Powell stated.

Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg praised Mr Powell for his strong advocacy for Glass House projects that desperately need government support.

“Voters shouldn’t be punished by a Labor government that has no plan and has even put a freeze on infrastructure for a year.” Mr Springborg said.

“The Sunshine Coast and hinterland is one of the fastest growing areas in the country, and the Palaszczuk-Gordon Government should be looking ahead instead of stalling and navel gazing.” he said

While in Glass House, Mr Springborg was also taken on a tour of the Palmwoods Rail Station which will eventually be upgraded as part of the future North Coast Rail Duplication and was also shown the dangerous Jubilee Drive intersection in Palmwoods, both of which form part of Mr Powell’s ‘Fighting for Glass House’ wishlist. Mr Powell has also been fighting for an upgrade to Maleny-Kenilworth Road so the day’s trip included a tour along this notorious stretch of road.

“I have been very clear with the Glass House people that I am dedicated to working on the best outcomes for their future and have encouraged them to communicate with me wherever possible on what they want to see to improve their patch of Glass House.

“Now that Mr Springborg has seen firsthand some of the projects that I am fighting for, I know he will be working with us to deliver for the residents of Glass House.”
