Powell Media Release – Round six winners announced in Local Heroes Grants

16 December 2016

Round six of Andrew Powell’s Local Heroes Grants have been announced and another three community groups and one individual in Glass House have been presented with a cheque for $250.

Designed to provide a bit of a helping hand to community groups or individuals participating in local, state, national or international endeavours, Andrew Powell’s Local Heroes grants have proven very popular since the local Member announced this program in January 2016.

“During my years representing this very special community, I have become acutely aware of how vital community groups are to our region and how tough they do it financially.

“In the same way if I can make a contribution towards an individual pursuing sporting or academic ventures, then I am only too happy to oblige,” Mr Powell said.

Winners for round six were:

• Wamuran Christian Fellowship to purchase a coffee machine for their Mum’s group
• The Shack Community Centre to assist with costs for a Christmas brunch and ‘Joy Packs’ for hospital inpatients
• Maleny Swimming Club for ground development
• Slade North towards costs associated with playing in Queensland Softball U15’s Development team

Mr Powell said that following the success of his Local Heroes Grants in 2016 he will be continuing the grants in 2017 and encourages anyone who fits the criteria to apply through his website www.andrewpowell.com.au.

Closing dates for 2017 are as follows:

Round 1 – Monday 13 February
Round 2 – Monday 10 April
