Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell, is excited to introduce Nathaniel Audley as the 2023 YMCA Youth Parliament Member for Glass House.
“Nathaniel is in Year 12 at Maleny State High and a Maleny local through and through. In fact, I first met Nathaniel around a decade ago when he participated in Maleny Little Athletics with my children. That might have also been the last time he was shorter than me…” said Mr Powell.
Queensland Youth Parliament is a program designed to engage young people aged 15 to 25 and guide them through the Parliamentary process. Over 90 participants gather to discuss the issues facing our youth and develop legislation that they will debate later in the year.
In addition to being the Youth Member for Glass House, Nathaniel has also been placed on the committee of Health Services, Seniors and Disability Services, Emergency and Ambulance Services.
“I met with Nathaniel earlier this week where he told me he had a passion for helping individuals with disabilities, so I’m confident he will do great work in that space from a policy and legislative standpoint.”
Like previous Glass House Youth Members Ariana Doolan, Connor Koegh and Maia Raymond, Nathaniel is motivated to drive change and exploring doing so through the world of politics.
“Meeting someone like Nathaniel who understands the value of contribution from our community’s youth makes me excited for the future of our state,” said Mr Powell.
“I am looking forward to working closely with Nathaniel to determine how I can better serve the electorate of Glass House and the young people within it,” said Mr Powell.
Nathaniel is keen to shadow Mr Powell around the electorate and down in Brisbane at Parliament, as well as fully immersing himself in the Youth Parliament sittings.
“Being able to gain a young person’s perspective through past Youth Members has been priceless, and I look forward to continuing those conversations with Nathaniel,” concluded Mr Powell.
