While our thoughts and focus are rightly on Far North Queensland and the Gold Coast with power and road crews rushing to restore services and access, Member for Glass House Andrew Powell has taken the opportunity to remind the new Minister for Main Roads there is work still needed to repair roads damaged from similar events nearly two years ago.

The proposal to grow the quarry is a real issue. There is not a single local that wants to see this happen! The deterioration of our local roads due to high volumes of trucks, the noise, the dust. But most of all the total destruction of our Mountains! It is disgraceful that this has been allowed for as long as it has. To let it expand would be fatal for our local environment.

I’d like to express my frustration with the ongoing Stamp Duty that is applied to the insurance policies of our private assets. With the exponential rise in house/car insurance the Stamp Duty is a well overdue revenue to be revised. With the upcoming state election it’s an opportune time for Stamp Duty being abolished or at best capped considering it’s a percentile revenue and we pay a GST which is shared to State Governments. It certainly would be more affordable and may keep more of the population insured which is the optimal outcome .

The proposed stage 4 highway and all the issues which come with it. Displacement of much loved families with compulsory purchase, people who bought or built dream home now stuck facing a highway and the destruction of a beautiful community for the sake of “progress”. The development corridor proposal for Elimbah and the high density homes for Elimbah (and I believe Beerwah too) will destroy everything which is good and safe about these 2 communities. Moreton region are unable to create safe communities at present (if you doubt this ask a teenage girl to walk through Caboolture after dark) and the increased homes and traffic will just rob our community of a place of safety. Thank you for caring.

This week on the ABC program ‘Brisbane Drive’, Steve Austin spoke with Deputy Mayor of the city of Moreton Bay Jodie Shipway, and Director of Suburban Futures Chairman, Ross Elliot to discuss the significant population growth in the Moreton Bay region and infrastructure requirements.
The area is expected to see an increase of over 300,000 people by 2041, which is a substantial growth rate. However, there is a concern about the lack of adequate infrastructure to support this population growth, especially in terms of job opportunities. The Deputy Mayor highlighted the need for infrastructure investment to accommodate the influx of new residents, while Ross Elliott, also emphasised the need to plan for jobs, social infrastructure, and transportation to avoid future commuting challenges.
The key takeaways from these conversations are the importance of government funding and investment in a region’s infrastructure as it grows.

Steve Irwin Way from Glasshouse to the south bound highway should be the next big project. Large population increase recently plus constant heavy vehicle traffic (e.g. hundreds of B Double movements daily) along with this being the alternate route when there is an incident on the highway had significantly degraded this road. Road repairs are totally ineffective - potholes return quickly and become deeper and more dangerous. I drive this road daily and feel it is now so dangerous that the speed limit should be reviewed. The problem with this is that the trucks will tailgate even more than they already do. This road can no longer service the amount of traffic that uses it.

Housing, housing and housing. I think this is the No.1 issue today. The QLD govt has failed completely on the building of public housing, it is unacceptable in a wealthy country that citizens are sleeping in cars and parks ( even those with jobs) because rents and mortgages are beyond their reach. Multiple innovative solutions are needed, as this is a long term problem, not easily solved. I see very little real action on this from either state or federal government. My vote will go to whichever party takes some meaningful action on housing ( not just the talkfest they are doing now )

Glasshouse needs immediate delivery of sporting facilities to re-engage our youth. We have such a short window to make sure the momentum of the Matildas and upcoming olympics leave a lasting legacy on South East QLD. If we don’t build and deliver now, we will have wasted a massive opportunity and risk losing a much larger percentage of youth to a future of crime. The possible future cost far outweighs the short term expense.

Agree that roads need attention with so many proposed developments which will lead to a greater population in Glasshouse electorate. However, medical attention is required for all Qld Health campuses. I am going through a high risk cancer treatment and the wait times at hospitals is staggering, this will impact everyone with treatment. Gold standard or priority 1 treatment is meant to occur qithin 30 days according to Qld Health, however it's taking up to 42 days. This delay is compounding for all patients, thus level 2

Bowen Road and Crittenden Road need to be ‘local traffic only’. These roads are used by rat runners avoiding traffic problems on M1 - they are both narrow roads with no markings or run offs, both are totally lined with houses and driveways.

Steve Irwin Way needs upgrading with a bike/walking path through to Landsborough and beyond. School children ride on that road and it is dangerous. They have no other choice to get to school! It has become a busy thoroughfare especially in peak season when something has happened on the highway. All of this needs to be taken into consideration for a growing population and the amount of lanes need to be forward planned with construction of which parts flood.

1. Steve Irwin Way. Why put all this work into a realignment for the rail without duplicating the road at the same time. Two lanes each way is desperately needed here, especially with the rise in the number of trucks that are using this road regularly. 2. Roy's Road has already broken down due to overuse. Overuse because once again, single lane where two lanes each way is required. Think of all the future traffic from the East Beerwah planned developments as well. 3. Bike/pedestrian pathways are severely lacking in this area. Landborough, beerwah, glasshouse and peachester need a well designed and safe path that connects not only the townships, but also connecting the different parts of Glass House National Parka. In addition a footpath that connects Beerwah to Baringa is also needed. The hinterland is often ignored and this is clear with our pothole filled streets, but we are also one of the main images of Sunshine coasts tourism with the mountains and the zoo - we need the infrastructure to show that we are respected just as much as the beach towns.
