Member for Glass House Andrew Powell has recently congratulated the first round of winners of his Local Heroes Grants for 2023.

“As is often the case, the winners were hard to pick,” said Mr Powell.

“Interestingly, there were lots of applications from sporting groups seeking assistance for new uniforms for the upcoming season. It’s great to know there are so many kids out there enrolling in sport again this year.”

In no particular order, the winners are:

• Restore Social Enterprises Inc.  – Enabling the enterprise to assist in creating jobs for people with disabilities or other significant barriers to employment in the Moreton Bay Region.

• FESTURI – Sponsorship for the festival to be held in October in Beerwah.
• Glasshouse and District Little Athletics Centre – Financially assisting families to travel to Townsville to compete in the Little Athletics State Championships.
• Maleny Netball Association – To help cover the costs of club uniforms for the 2023 season.

“Restore Social Enterprise have an initial goal to create 100 jobs in their first three years for the people who need them most and I’m proud to support them in that initiative.”

FESTURI is a completely free, family-friendly local festival that celebrates diversity of culture, religion, ethnic groups, language diversity and more.

Every year, FESTURI produces two festivals – one in Beerwah in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland and other at Cotton Tree/Maroochydore – for the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities and wider population to enjoy.  And it’s educational, as we learn about diverse cultures through music and dance.

“I attended the Beerwah FESTURI festival last year and it was incredible! I’ve already cleared the diary for this year’s festival,” concluded Mr Powell.
