Member for Glass House Andrew Powell has announced that six community organisations have taken shares in $112,141 across the Glass House electorate, courtesy of round 118 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF).
The GCBF provides sizeable grants to Queensland not-for-profit community organisations with revenue sourced from gaming taxes.
“These grants are my first recommendation when individuals and community groups approach me to ask where they should seek funding for their endeavours from,” said Mr Powell.
“The amount of money gathered from gambling taxes is eyewatering – a fact that’s concerning in it’s own right. But it’s good to see that revenue being put to improving our communities, as it should.”
The winning groups in round 118 are:
Maleny District Sport and Rec Club
$9,350 has been awarded to the Maleny District Sport and Rec Club (MDSRC) to produce a business plan for their future.
“The MDSRC have come up with some fantastic ideas over the years, and they provide a lot of support to other community groups. I am keen to see what they come up with this time.”
Mooloolah Community Men’s Shed
The Mooloolah Community Men’s Shed has secured $34,991 to purchase new workshop tools and equipment to replace their current outdated ones.
“It’s been proven that Men’s Sheds can contribute greatly to a man’s sense of belonging and wellbeing – both physical and emotional. I’m always pleased to support my local men’s sheds.”
Peachester State School P&C
$34,000, the maximum amount awardable under the GCBF, has gone to the Peachester State School P&C for them to install new playground equipment. The P&C and school say that they are looking forward to designing a much fresher and more inclusive playground experience for their children, adding to their learning and growing.
“This will benefit children for many generations and years to come, it’s a wonderful future-proofing project and I’m sure all the children are very excited to see their new playground.”
Peachester Community Hall
$17,000 has been granted to the Peachester Community Hall to install air conditioning. The Hall is used by many local community groups such as the Peachester History Committee, Peachester Hall Committee, Peachester CWA and Mountain Quilters.
“It’s been a stifling summer so far, and that’s not to mention all the other hot summers the hall users have suffered through. I know this grant will be so gratefully received by entire community.”
Hinterland Music Club
Receiving $6,800 to purchase audio equipment and stage stools.
Maternity Choices Australia
Receiving $9,000 for a research and marketing campaign.
“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund has proven once again to be a crucial source of support for local organisations. Congratulations to the winning community groups in Glass House – your dedication to positive community impact has not gone unnoticed,” concluded Mr Powell.
