Sunshine Coast to benefit from 20 new Adult Crime, Adult Time offences as laws expand

  • The Crisafulli Government has introduced the expansion of Adult Crime, Adult Time, to the Queensland Parliament. 
  • The expansion brings Adult Crime, Adult Time to 33 offences and delivers on a key commitment to act on recommendations from the Expert Legal Panel.  
  • 20 new offences include arson, torture, kidnapping, trafficking in dangerous drugs, rape, attempted rape, sexual assault, ramming a police vehicle while driving and attempted murder. 
  • Stronger laws will make young offenders accountable for their actions and drive down crime in Sunshine Coast.

Stronger crime laws will be delivered for Sunshine Coast with the expansion of landmark Adult Crime, Adult Time laws to 33 youth crime offences.  

Youth criminals in Sunshine Coast will face an additional 20 Adult Crime, Adult Time offences, including attempted murder, rape, attempted rape, torture, aggravated attempted robbery, trafficking in dangerous drugs, and endangering a police officer when driving a motor vehicle are included in the new laws, introduced to Parliament yesterday.

The expanded list of Adult Crime, Adult Time offences follows recommendations from the Expert Legal Panel which was established to consider further and more complex crimes, just as the LNP promised at the election.

Member for Glass House, Andrew Powell said expanding Adult Crime, Adult Time was the next critical step in restoring community safety.

“We are delivering on our promise to restore safety to our community with strong Adult Crime, Adult Time laws,” Mr Powell said.

“Adult Crime, Adult Time will cover 33 serious offences, holding youth criminals accountable with consequences for their crimes.

“Fixing a decade of Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis will take time, but Adult Crime, Adult Time is an important next step.

“We won’t rest until we arrest Labor’s Youth Crime Crisis and restore safety to Sunshine Coast.”
