Two inspiring organisations in the Moreton Bay region are among the nearly 600 community groups to receive funding from the latest round of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF), as part of more than $14 million in grants announced by the Crisafulli Government.
The funding boost supports a wide range of initiatives, including volunteer-led services, community events and clubs, grassroots sports improvements and projects that improve wellbeing and inclusion.
Local MP Andrew Powell said it was fantastic to see Cranky’s Farm Animal Rescue Mission and Bright Bags QLD receive well-deserved support for their work in the community.
Cranky’s Farm Animal Rescue, located in Mount Mee, has been awarded $30,935 to upgrade goat yards, part of their broader mission to rehabilitate animals with complex needs.
“It was fantastic to catch up with Natalie and Brett at Cranky’s Farm and see their incredible efforts firsthand,” Mr Powell said.
“They provide lifelong care to disabled and rescued farm animals, ensuring they live long and happy lives. These funds will enable them to upgrade their goat yards and continue giving vulnerable animals a second chance at life.”
Bright Bags QLD, located in Wamuran, another standout recipient in the region – will receive $32,983 to purchase a storage container and essential equipment. The organisation provides support packs to children entering out-of-home care, filled with essentials and comfort items to help ease what would otherwise be a traumatic transition.
“These groups are the heart of our community,” Mr Powell added. “Their compassion and dedication deserve to be celebrated and supported.”
Other community organisations across the Glass House electorate also received a welcome boost, including:
• Glasshouse Mountains Sports Club – $35,000 to purchase a tractor
• Maleny Rangers Football Club – $34,971 to construct change rooms
• Range United Churches Soccer Club Inc – $23,376 to upgrade facilities and purchase equipment
Since its inception over 30 years ago, the Gambling Community Benefit fund has distributed more than $1.25 billion directly into Queensland communities, funding grassroots development and projects that foster wellbeing and inclusion.
“With over 1,100 applications for this round, I urge all eligible groups to apply to current and future rounds,” Mr Powell added.
Applications for Round 124 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund’s next $100,000 Super Round are closing soon, on 18 July 2025.
