The Crisafulli Government has delivered on its promise to expand Woodford P-10 State School, with Year 11 students to taking their seats in 2028, and Year 12 to follow in 2029.
The expansion marks a long-awaited milestone for the Woodford community, ensuring local students can complete their senior schooling close to home.
Secured in the Crisafulli Government’s very first State Budget, the project also includes funding for a new Industrial Technology and Design Workshop, alongside additional investment to upgrade the existing senior playground.
The school’s leadership team and the Department of Education are now working closely with government to plan the transition and ensure readiness for the 2028 start date.
Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said the announcement reflected the government’s focus on strengthening regional education opportunities.
“We are doing what we said we would do,” Minister Langbroek said.
“Design work begins in 2026, with the first senior kids to roll in the door in 2028,”
“This is a promise delivered, but it’s more than that, it’s about a community being able to keep the fabric of what makes this beautiful place special.
Local Member for Glass House Andrew Powell said keeping senior students in Woodford will mean less time spent travelling and more time learning.
“I have been advocating for this upgrade for the past 16 years, and I’m proud to be part of the Crisafulli Government delivering Years 11 and 12 at Woodford State School – a long-awaited milestone for the Woodford community,” Mr Powell said.
“It’s essential we get the right infrastructure in place before welcoming students in Years 11 and 12, to ensure they receive the best possible education and experience,”
“I want to reassure locals that Principal Kelly Jeppesen and I are working closely with the Department of Education to plan and prepare as quickly as possible.
“As you can imagine, there are many obstacles that come with adding two additional years to the school, including relocating and upgrading existing facilities, adding classrooms, employing and retaining additional staff, and more – but it will all be worth it to finally have a school that meets the needs of our community.”
The expansion will support stronger links between education, local employers and family-owned businesses, creating real career pathways in Woodford and helping drive long-term economic growth for the community.
